Review – Hawker House, London

Get Your Butt To HH
If you’re in the mood for street food in a giant warehouse space then you need to ready your body for Hawker House.

Hawker House Canada Water, London is an indoor food and drink market run by Street Feast. Street Feast run markets all over London so check their site for one near you.

The BF and I headed over to Hawker House (HH) one cold February eve. It was in fact pouring with rain and blowing a gale. Luckily for the BF, HH is only a 2 minute walk from our house or else I would have refused to go. I’m adventurous like that.

Fortunately HH was heavily heated in the most delightful way. It’s free to get in before 7pm and £3 after which is a bargain for the fact you can be warm and snuggly. Despite the unassuming exterior (I described it as a crack den) inside is a delightful warehouse with two levels and more street food options than you can shake a kebab at.

#HawkerHouse is ROCKING. Great shot from @reidread.

Now I know what you’re thinking, “Hannah you’re a whingy vegetarian, did they have many options to silence you?” And the answer to that slightly bitchy question is yes, many! In fact I had the best burrito I had ever eaten and it was vegan. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

Club Mexicana don’t just have a jazzy name and a funky neon sign. They serve all vegan Mexican food good enough to turn the biggest of steak lovers. I had the smokey bean burrito. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

Rola Wala serve Indian naan sliders. They do a fantastic paneer one but be warned, it is spicy as hell. My lips were burning for 15 minutes afterwards. Only for the brave. The BF also tried their chicken and beef sliders and reported back that they were excellent.

We chased the food down with some delicious beverages. The Hangar Bar has great cider and Kamm’s Kitchen serves both the cutest design I have ever seen and delicious cocktails.

Finally we sampled Chin Chin Lab‘s wares. If you’re on a diet maybe don’t go near them, but you will regret this choice for the rest of your life. We tried the hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow foam and the cookie-wich (cookie ice cream sandwich). Both were orgasmic. Marshmallow foam is probably what I would request as my last meal on death row, it’s that good. Bury me with 6 buckets of it please. (For all my vegan Fanciers, they also do vegan options.)

Overall HH was a real win for me. I loved the atmosphere, they separate the building into two food areas and several bar areas which were fun to explore. With 14 food vendors there are plenty of options no matter your requirements. We went around 6.30 pm and it was already busy but we got lucky with finding tables. If you’re going with a group you can book or you’re going to want to get there early. The only downside that I can think of is it was expensive but I think I’m still adjusting to London prices! Plus my burrito was so delicious it was ultimately priceless.

Rating? 9/10 bigger pairs of jeans I now require.
